Getting ready for a headshot session and wondering what to wear? This is one of the most common questions I get! Whether it’s for LinkedIn, your business profile, or personal branding, your outfit plays a big part in how your final image feels. Choosing the right attire can set the tone for the entire photoshoot.
Here are some simple tips to help you choose the perfect outfit for your headshot:

1. Think About the Message You Want to Send
What do you want your headshot to communicate? Are you going for a confident and professional look? Or perhaps something warm and approachable? You might even want a creative vibe. Start with the feeling, then choose clothes that match that vibe.
2. Solid Colours Are Your Friend
Bold patterns, logos, or busy prints can distract in a headshot. Solid colours are timeless and keep the focus on you. Neutrals like white, black, grey, navy, and beige work beautifully. However, don't be afraid to incorporate a pop of colour that suits your skin tone and personality!
The Importance of Neutrals
Neutral tones can create a soft, elegant look. They offer versatility and blend well in various professional settings. Incorporate them into your wardrobe for a timeless appeal.
3. Choose a Neckline That Flatters
Crew necks, v-necks, collared shirts, or blouses work well. Choose a neckline that feels like you and brings attention to your face. The right neckline can highlight your features and enhance your overall appearance in the photo.
4. Layers Add Interest
Adding a blazer, cardigan, or structured jacket can elevate your look. These layers give you options during the shoot and add depth and polish without appearing too formal. Consider wearing a fitted blazer over your outfit to achieve a sharp and professional look.

5. Avoid Distracting Accessories
Less is often more. Simple is best when it comes to jewellery or accessories. Stick to pieces that complement your outfit without stealing the spotlight. We want the focus to be on your eyes and expression rather than on flashy accessories.
6. Make Sure It Fits Well
Baggy clothes can look shapeless in photos. On the other hand, tight clothes can feel uncomfortable. Choose something that fits well and makes you feel confident. Proper fit can significantly enhance your appearance and ensure you look your best in every shot.

7. Bring Options!
Not sure what to wear? Bring 1–2 outfit choices to your session, and I’ll help you decide! That’s part of the experience. Making sure you look and feel your best is my priority.
8. Lastly… Be Comfortably You
Confidence is your best accessory. If you feel good in what you’re wearing, it’ll show in your photos. Don’t wear something just because it’s “expected”! Wear what feels right for you and aligns with how you want to be seen. Authentic self-expression is key.
